Industrial Meat Scales
There is a multitude of different kinds of industrial meat scales on the market today. Through the plethora of choices, Teraoka will take you through the accuracy of their equipment, why they are so accurate and how they work.
Keeping things accurate!
Teraoka’s industrial meat scales are not only for mere weighing tasks. They can also link to your company’s network of computers in order to assist with the management information when ordering stock, planning your production process, loss, cost and shrinkage control and organising outgoing sales.
By law, any device utilised to weigh, receive, pack for sale, distribute or sell goods to consumers and the general public is required to be approved by the National Regulator of Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and verified in terms of the Legal Metrology Act (Act 9 of 2014). This verification would be valid for a period of two years, however, the NRCS will conduct regular spot checks on businesses to ensure they remain compliant with the Act.
This is one of the many reasons why Teraoka leads the way in industrial meat scales supply. Using more than forty years of experience and innovation along with a team of professional technicians, carefully selected for their already advanced professional experience and additional knowledge gained at our very own Training Centre located at our Head Office in Johannesburg, we strive to perfect accuracy and longevity of our meat measuring products.
With the expertise of our technicians, we will be involved with every process in your new or ongoing retail outlet or food factory. We will ensure accurate installation and implementation of our products with onsite presence throughout the process until completion.
We are proud to have leading after-sales support and service with continuous functional and technical support, ensuring the accuracy and functionality of our industrial meat scale products.
Inaccurate measuring equipment can lead to sale-by-sale losses for either the buyer or the seller. Over time, this can vastly impact your bottom-line profit or loss percentages.
The utilisation of accurate weighing scales builds trust between both the buyer and the seller. It assists your company in building lasting relationships with your clients, thereby ensuring repeat business from happy clients. This is why Teraoka products are accurate to within 0.05%.
How Industrial Meat Scales Work
Able to withstand extremely high overloads, our remarkably durable products are designed with the highest quality load cells.
A load cell measures direct mechanical force, mainly to convert the weight of objects. Our electronic weighing equipment use load cells for the measurement of weight. We use them because of the accuracy with which they can measure an object.
A load cell is a transducer that converts force into measurable electrical output. Although there are many varieties of force sensors, strain gauge load cells are proven to be the best.
In our ultra-precision industrial meat scales, there are two transducers at opposite ends of a spring element. When an object is weighed, a bulk wave is generated from one transducer to the other. The second transducer receives the wave, amplifies it and sends it back to the first. This will cause a frequency to be created which is dependent on the distance between the two transducers. This is in direct correlation with the bending of the spring element i.e. the weight of the object.
In order to minimise weight reading inaccuracies, our industrial meat scales do not convert into physical weight readings. On the contrary, our measuring devices weigh objects digitally which is proven to be far more accurate, a lot more reliable and avoids consistent recalibration exercises.

Weighing up the Options
Teraoka offers several options of industrial meat scale products from bench scales which are for counter or tabletop weighing services used for portion control, package weighing and product counting to scale platforms that perform highly accurate weighing operations in a multitude of weighing applications including industrial meat scales.
There are many reasons for scales to read inaccurately. Environmental factors such as wind, vibration, dirt or dust and temperature fluctuations can influence the accuracy and durability of the measuring device. This is why we at Teraoka train and assist users of all our products in the positioning, storage, maintenance and upkeep of the product from day one.
